See the NWN wiki for basics of scribing scrolls: http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Scribe_scroll

Many spells can be scribed to a scroll. Sorcerers can cast arcane spell scrolls and a few non-arcane scrolls. Given the limitations on the number of spells a Sorcerer can learn, many players opt to carry some of their spells in scroll form and free up space in their spell book.

Scrolls are best scribed by wizards since they can learn every spell in the game, and many players choose to make wizards purely for this purpose.

A few facts about using Scrolls:

  • HG Enhanced only type spells cannot generally be scribed to a scroll.
  • Scrolls are scribed at their innate level and a fixed caster level. This can make a spell cast from a scroll considerably weaker/shorter than when it is directly cast.
  • Some spells don't depend much on caster level or innate level. These can be good choices for carrying in scroll form.

Spell Scroll List

Spell Purchasable in Town? Rod available in Demi Shop? What its useful for.
Black Blade of Disaster No Yes Summons an indestructible fighting sword. Excellent for pulling groups of creatures to the party while in Greater Sanctuary. The only way to get rid of it is to cause it to be unsummoned. Most enemies aren't smart enough to do that, so they just try to fight it leaving you out of harms way. This can be invaluable for some boss fights and also for solo or small groups. If you don't use it often it can be cast to good effect from a scroll. Warning this counts as a 'Summon' for certain LL boss spawns so it may not be a good idea to create it before you hit the spawn trigger.
Greater Sanctuary No Yes (potions) Prevents monsters from attacking you for several minutes. Even if you take the spell, the scrolls are useful if you get amnied, or you are relying on GV.
Stone to Flesh No Yes There are a number of creatures and effects, especially in Hell, that will cause your character to become stoned/frozen. Scrolls are effective on these effects.
Mordenkainen's disjunction No Yes Strips enemies spell protections, reduces enemies SR both without a save or SR. It also attempts to dispel magical effects. This comes in very handy and can be used effectively as a scroll. Can be used as a single-target or as an area effect. For the area effect, be careful to avoid party members. Note that if you want to counterspell, you will need the actual spell and not just scrolls.
Mind Blank No No Protects against stun in Thids. Removes confusion, stun, and daze in all areas. The scrolls do not remove sleep effects, nor do they grant the one-time protection offered at level 41.
Clarity Yes (potions) Yes Removes confusion, stun, daze, and sleep effects in all areas. The removal of sleep effects is unique and is particularly useful in some areas of the Abyss. However, note that clarity is bugged, and cannot be cast or scribed by wizards who have barred Necromancy. Also note that clarity potions are available at the Alchemist's, which are useful for removing daze on yourself.
Summon Creature I-IX Yes ( I-VII )
No (VIII and IX)
No These make effective tanks at low levels and can still be useful later. The duration and caster level are based on the level the spell can be learned. So a Summon Creature VIII is cast at level 15. They may be a lot weaker than the spell you could cast yourself.
Shadow Shield No No Behaves the same as Shadow Shield from caster staffs, Shadow Shield potions, or other items. The spell gives immunity to necromancy spells, negative levels, instant death effects, 100% immunity to negative energy, and some other minor effects.
Lesser Planar Binding
Planar Binding
Greater Planar Binding
Yes Lesser Planar Binding
No Greater Planar Binding
These spells summon a pet outsider as your ally. These spells also can be used to attempt to paralyze an enemy outsider.
Time Stop No No Useful in an emergency, has limitations on the frequency of casting based on several factors. Whilst it is not scribable (without the Dragon Blood component) it is a set drop in the Ssithrak dimension area.
