Hak Paks and Overrides
CEP
The only hak required to play Higher Ground is the Community Expansion Pack (CEP), version 2.3. It is a 738MB .7z file that can be downloaded from either NWVault or HGWeb.
- CEP 2.3 on NWVault
- CEP 2.3 7z from NWVault
- CEP 2.3 7z from HGWeb
- CEP 2.3 7z from Acaos (need to right click download)
HG Enhanced
The Higher Ground Enhanced hak is a replacement for several default CEP hak and tlk files which will improve your Higher Ground experience.
All details including download location and usage are shown on the HG Enhanced page.
Portrait and Voice Packs
- NPC Portraits
- NPC Soundsets
- CEP2 Heads Override
- HG Giant Portrait Thingy (Right-click on it and select "Save target as")
- Winged Character Portraits
These downloads add a lot more choices for both portraits and voice sets when making new characters. The CEP2 Heads override allows you to use the alternate CEP2 head models when making a new character.
Transparent GUI
The Transparent GUI is included in HG Enhanced. We strongly suggest using HG Enhanced.
- Transparent GUI (note: two files to download)
- Non-Colorized HP Bars
This overhauls the NWN GUI to be much less obtrusive. It also adds colorized icons. If you don't like the colorized HP bars, download the Non-Colorized HP Bars file above and put it in your override directory (overwriting the one from the Transparent GUI pack). Also, delete the file gui_boxes_ingame.tga from your override directory.
NWN2 Spell Icons
This replaces many of the spell icons with NWN2 icons. Some people like the look, others do not like the differences from traditional NWN1. They will not conflict with the icons from HG Enhanced. Put the unzipped images you want in your override directory.
Configuration Tweaks
Client Side Logging
To turn on logging, add the line ClientEntireChatWindowLogging=1 to the [Game Options] section of nwnplayer.ini. This will log everything in the combat log window to your logs/ directory. It will write to the files nwnclientLog#.txt, where # starts at 1 and goes to 4 where it will wrap back to 1 (and start overwriting). It puts up to 2.4MB in each file before moving to the next one.
- Log Reader Program thread contains links to a number of tools available to parse the logs and output summaries.
Port Change
This is only necessary if you plan to use multiple computers with HG. In nwnplayer.ini, in the [Profile] section, change the Client Port value to different values on each computer. For instance, make one of them 5120 and the other 5122. If you do not do this, the second one will not be able to log into HG (if somehow you do manage to log in with the same port values, you will cause problems for both yourself and everyone else on the server).
Increased Cache Size
Note: This has not been fully tested -- it may enhance your performance but it also may hinder it. More details forthcoming as more people test with it.
Add the line Max Memory Usage=32 to the [Game Options] section of nwnplayer.ini. The default setting is 16. You can also try 64, but values higher than this are reported to cause slowdowns. This increases the client side resource cache, which should help reduce stutter on spawns.
Window Mode under Linux
The Linux client needs you to edit a configuration file to enable windowed mode. In nwn.ini, in the [Display Options] section, add the line
AllowWindowedMode=1
and change the FullScreen parameter to have value 0:
FullScreen=0
In addition, an HG-modified client executable is now available. This is totally optional and not required for using HG Enhanced. If you are not comfortable replacing your NWN executable, do not attempt to install the modified executable.
HG-modified client executable
A modified client executable is now available. This is totally optional and not required for using HG Enhanced. If you are not comfortable replacing your NWN executable, do not attempt to install this.
- Windows Version http://dl.hgweb.org/client/nwmain-169-hg.7z
- This version of the client raises the limit on effect icons from 129 to 254.
- It raises the maximum camera distance from 25m to 40m.
- It allows entering true first-person camera mode by pressing the Home key while in Drive Camera mode.
- It allows angling the camera to look upward. Be warned that if you have HG Enhanced skyboxes on, you may see the edges of skyboxes which cannot normally be viewed. We will remodel some of these in the future to fix this.
- It increases the maximum tile fog distance from 45m to 75m, which allows you to see more terrain around your character.
- It allows running multiple instances of the NWN client.
- Linux Version http://dl.hgweb.org/client/nwmain-169-hg.tar.gz
- This version of the client raises the limit on effect icons from 129 to 254.
HG Google Search
This allows you to search the HG forums using any browser. It's not as current as the actual search on the forums, but it's a lot faster.
Google Search is also available in the bottom right corner of the forums.
HG Server CrossRoads
This will replace the GameSpy login and allow you to log into HG servers directly. It will also automatically archive your logs, if you have logs running on your NWN installation.
