These are the xR items. 70 character levels are required to use them, in the case of the xR subraces 80 levels are required to read the book.
Whilst they are categorised as random items they are not found as random drops and can only be purchased from Ixion (see Forge of Ixion) using Soul Canopics and will automatically be randomised at the point of purchase.
When obtaining a 'random' xR for 50 Soul Canopics the drop rates are weighted so it is much more likely that you with be given an xR item rather than a weapon or even less likely a book.

Unlike UR and BUR random items there are no caster specific xRs with additional spell slots, however they can have augmenters present that lead to this.
All items with added stats can have these increased to +16 either through randomisation or addition of augments, unrandomised xRs will default to +14. Boosting these to +16 can be useful to complete maximisation of all character stats when combined with Asmo artifacts and Abyss loot.

xR Items can loosely be classified as

1 'This is going to get immediately refunded!'
2 Acceptable with reservations
3 Good
4 'You're having a laugh aren't you this is stupidly good!'

Obviously a good randomisation can significantly affect the usability/value of an item and (currently at least) the only way to re-randomise (or normalise to then re-randomise) an xR item is to use an Artificer's Monograph, it is not possible to specifically add a beneficial property as the Asmodeus Sword does not work for them.
