There are many effects on Higher Ground that can negatively effect your character but for most of these there are items/abilities/spells that can prevent these effects being applied.

Contents

Amnesia

This effect causes you to immediately lose all memorised spells and abilities and requires you to rest to recover them, whilst it is primarily of concern to spell casters it can also affect certain non-caster abilities (shape shifting, rogue immunity to skill penalties, etc). The primary cause of this effect is contact with water from the River Styx although there are certain creatures that can inflict it was well.
Amnesia immunity can NOT be found as an added random item property.

Equipment

Class Specific

  • All Shifter Construct forms are immune to amnesia

Spells

  • The Epic druid spell Veil of Mists protects the caster from amnesia while shifted (useful for Dragon druids).

Rage

This effect causes you to attack the nearest hostile creature(s) (not the same effect as confusion which also causes you to drop party and attack everything) even if you are currently in Greater Sanctuary or out of combat and also prevents successful resting (constantly breaks your rest cycle), this is indicated by a glowing red dot above your character. It can be prevented by wearing an item with immunity to Charm and can be removed by Clarity cast by a character (or item) with caster level 41+.

Freezing

This effect causes you to be frozen in place unable to move or take any actions, whilst the icon for the effect is the same as that for being petrified items with immunity to petrification do NOT protect against it! However it is possible to unfreeze people with the Stone to Flesh spell.
