Dexterity

Dexterity measures agility, reflexes, and balance. This ability is most important for Rogues, but also for characters who typically wear light or medium armor (Barbarians and Rangers) or none at all (Monks, Wizards, and Sorcerers), or for any character who wants to be a skilled archer (by default all missile weapons use Dexterity to determine AB). A character's Dexterity modifier is added to all reflex saving throws. Dexterity also becomes the primary stat for determining AB with melee weapons if you have the Weapon Finesse feat.

Further Information

  • A character's dexterity modifier is added to their armor class but this is limited by the maximum dexterity bonus allowed by the armor they are wearing.
  • Any creature that can move has at least 1 point of Dexterity.
  • Having a score of 0 means that the character cannot move at all. He stands motionless, rigid, and helpless.
  • A creature with no Dexterity score can't move (a shrieker, for example). If it can act (such as by casting spells), it applies its Intelligence modifier to initiative checks instead of its Dexterity modifier. The creature fails all reflex saves and Dexterity checks.
