From HGWiki
Here you can find quick information about open subrace builds.
Usually it is recommended that you play a base class for your first toon, as they tend to be more balanced than others with open subraces (but this is not always true). Its also recommended that once you find a build you like more, you go and read its corresponding page on the wiki so you can better understand what you are doing.
All the builds posted here have very detailed information under their corresponding page in the Higher Ground Forum, this page is just to make it easier to find fast information about these builds for newer players who are not yet familiar with the forums.
Base Classes
Dragon's Rage - 32Barbarian/1Bard/7White Dragon Disciple
|
- Offense
- Uses a double weapon with devastating and overwhelming critical in addition it also has thundering and mighty rage.
- Defense
- Barbarian class will mean high HP and as the CC you will gain physical immunity of 1/2 STR modifier and once you reach 40 base STR you gain immunity to critical hits. The WDD levels also provide 40% immunity to cold damage and can not be reduced below 40%.
- Fun factor
- Simple and Strong. A resilient tank with dual-wielder attacks per round and solid damage output.
- Others
- No terrifying rage which is a nice aura debuff but it won't be missed much.
|
-Battle Cleric
The Redeemed of Tyr - 35Cleric/3Paladin/2Fighter
|
- Offense
- Reasonable AB but with 7 attacks each round will give some nice damage during Legendary runs. It also has a couple of useful offensive spells such as Harm, Battletide, prayer and others to aid kill enemies easier.
- Defense
- Very good defenses, with all cleric buffs even when you are being hit you won’t even notice your HP dropping much due to your massive soak and critical immunity. Some gear to protect against dispel is really needed and remembering to recast buffs every so often too.
- Fun factor
- Battle Clerics are always fun to level, with all the self and party buffs you won’t never be rejected by any party.
- Others
- Miracle epic will aid any party with mass resurrection, temporary HP and making enemies run away.
|
TinyMonk - 25Monk/5Harper Scout/10Fighter
|
- Offense
- Have up to 10 attacks/round when using Harper Scout boots and flurry will deal quite a good amount of damage each turn.
- Defense
- Monk defenses like Improved Evasion, disease, poison and mind immunity helps a lot on gear setup.
- 50% Innate Conceal will help a lot during levelling in Legendary runs.
- Fun factor
- Playing a fist monk is really fun. The battle animation is cool and being able to move that fast is also very fun (use the boots special power and try running and you'll see)
- Others
- Fist monks cant receive weapon buffs, this will makes a lot of difference in later areas where most buffs are available and all other tanks are dealing 6d12 while you are still on a 2d12 dice. On the other hand, if there isnt any buff in the party, you wont have any penalties, so you'll be able to tank and deal the same damage either way.

Crossbow Rogues
Prestige Classes
Black Snake Moan - 30Blackguard/4Rogue/6Fighter
|
- Offense
- Can deal high amount of physical damage on each hit (with divine might + sneak attacks + str modifier) and using Greater Smite. Misses on not having listen can lower its hit percentage at the end runs, but won’t do much difference at legendary levels.
- Defense
- Don’t have self buffs apart from Divine Might and Divine Shield but can use the critical immune ring to be more resistant to most attacks, even thou it drops constitution by 2 and gives bad vulnerability to divine and positive (which are somehow bad to take on other slots).
- Fun factor
- Greater Smite is indeed fun to use, and having it deal 1000 damage on vulnerable enemies is really satisfying.
- Others
- The build gives up on Casting spells (Corrupt weapon, Cold Weapon, Critical immunity and other self buffs) to be able to be a full smiter.
- This is kinda like the "other face" of the Oxec Tuzzom ia Wount build. Its recommended that you read both carefully.
|
Oxec Tuzzom ia Wount - 29Blackguard/3Rogue/8Fighter
|
- Offense
- High Listen coupled with good AB makes this build a really good damage dealer.
- Defense
- Takes advantage of all Blackguard's self buffs (Freedom of movement, Death ward, Protection from elements among others) that even grants complete immunity to critical hits at higher levels. Nice skills selection as well, which makes this builds able to pass most of the checks a tank is supposed to survive.
- Fun factor
- Not having greater smite can take a bit of the fun of the build, as you are basically another tank. But for new players its better to learn one thing each time, so this build is really good to learn how to play a tank effectively.
- Others
- This is kinda like the "other face" of the Black Snake Moan build. Its recommended that you read both carefully.
|
Icy Hot Draggy - 30White Dragon Disciple/9Paladin/1Sorcerer
|
- Offense
- High Listen and blind fight that will help him bypass concealment and not be flanked while blind or in darkness.
With a constitution artifact can inflict cold vulnerability on enemies with its breath for greater damage on their hits.
- Defense
- 100% absolute cold immunity and 50% fire immunity, high number of hit points, dragon fear aura and reasonable AC coupled with high parry makes of this build a very good defensive tank.
- Fun factor
- This is a fun and easy build, because as you level up it will change your appearance at 10 xDD (adding wings) and at 30 xDD and also increasing your base ability scores.
- Others
- The build can also offer a great help to any party by dropping Saves/AB of enemies with its dragon fear aura by 3 and wing buffet ability that cleans any cloud the enemy has put under the party.
|
Azer Chieftain - 18Dwarven Defender/12Bard/10Red Dragon Disciple
|
- Offense
- With high strenght and reasonable AB, can deal a good amount of damage with its 6 attacks/round, but this build is more defensive oriented than offensive.
- Defense
- As a 'tank with benefits' the build is ideal for new players to explore the server without needing the best gear or relying on buffs for survival and effectiveness.
- Can easily get really good immunity to physical and elementals (have already 50% fire, 70% cold) so gear wont be much of a problem really.
- Fun factor
- Being able to soak so much damage and stil stay alive is always good. Other than the buffs, the build is just a tank. Easy to play and learn the areas.
- Others
- With Instruments of Faith that grants +16 Enhancement bonus and casting haste on the tanks in your party will make you welcome in any party. Just dont let them pick on your size.
